Vision: The Main District

In our first Past/Present/Future post on the evolution of North Hills, we told the story of the old North Hills Mall, which opened in 1960 as a strip mall and was reconstructed into an enclosed mall in 1967.North Hills Mall lasted as an enclosed mall until 2001, when Kane Realty Corporation purchased it. In the past 14 years, it has grown from a place that encapsulated the term “mall,” to a place that is far from a suburban mall. It is now a place where you can live, work, play, eat, shop, and just be.We’ve already shown you past, present, and future photos of the Lassiter District and the Park District, but some of our best past and present photos come from our Main District, and what used to be North Hills Mall. Below are a series of photos including the old mall site — both inside and out, the old Penney’s, the demolition, and what you see in the Midtown’s Main District today.North Hills BeforeJCPenney's RenderingThe old North Hills MallMain District AerialMain District
