The floor medallion, located in the Renaissance Hotel lobby, abstractly depicts the terrain and geology of North Carolina from the mountains to the coast with its capital city shown clearly in the center of the state where it exists. The depiction of Raleigh is via the unique 18th century William Christmas plan for downtown Raleigh which exists fairly intact to this day.
The medallion is 14 ft. in diameter and its design components consist of fiberglass, stainless steel, lights, and terrazzo.
