One of North Hills’s goals is to always be a community that innovates with you in mind. We also want to do everything we can to ensure the safety of North Hills residents, employees, and businesses in the event of an emergency. That’s why several of our public safety and event team members recently received their CERT certification — Community Emergency Response Team for Midtown.

The program educates people on disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills when professional responders are not immediately available to help. After a major disaster, first responders who provide fire and medical services cannot meet the demand for these services. Numerous victims, communication issues, and road blockages stand in their way. That’s where CERT-trained people can help fill in the gap.

North Hills is the only facility of its kind in the Raleigh area to have a CERT team, combining a unique group of professionals and true first responders.

Over the course of seven weeks, these individuals received training that addressed potential hazards that could affect the local community, fires, medical operations, search and rescue operations, and disaster psychology and team organization. At the end of the seven weeks, the members had to demonstrate their skills within a disaster simulation.

We’re committed to doing everything we can to keep the community safe in the event of a disaster — and that begins with having people prepared to help from the start.
