About This Week at Quail Ridge Books: June 25 – July 1
Monday, June 26 @ 7 pm: Daniel Wallace with ‘Extraordinary Adventures‘
An offer of a weekend getaway prize – companion required – jolts complacent Edsel into life. Used to his routine, he realizes he has only 79 days to find a significant other. Once you realize anything can happen, it does. Big Fish author Daniel Wallace spins an engaging and optimistic adventure in Extraordinary Adventures on Monday, June 26, at 7 pm. If you know Big Fish and The Kings and Queens of Roam, you know to expect the unexpected in Daniel’s novels.
“Extraordinary Adventures is a terrifically funny novel, populated by terrifically funny, truly human characters. And yet, Daniel Wallace’s humor never feels cruel―even the most damaged characters still seem to have the possibility for love, for change, and for redemptions, big and small.” ―Gabrielle Zevin, author of The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry
Tuesday, June 27 @ 7 pm: Margaret Maron with ‘Take Out‘ (signing line ticket event)
So many awards for her mysteries, and so many appearances at Quail Ridge over the years. Margaret Maron returns on Tuesday, June 27, at 7 pm to launch what she says will be her last book. Take Out features Margaret’s original protagonist, Sigrid Harald. Sigrid’s several mysteries preceded Margaret’s beloved (and award-winning) Deborah Knott series. Readers of that series noticed Sigrid’s appearance in latter Knott novels. Now Sigrid returns to the fore in Margaret’s swan song. Join us as we party, and honor Margaret’s body of work. She didn’t receive that Edgar Grand Master Award for nothing! Laughs, refreshments, tears, and surprises are sure to occur.
Signing line ticket event: Receive a ticket for the after-program signing line with the QRB purchase of Take Out. The earlier the book is purchased, the earlier the line position ticket. Those without tickets may join the line after ticket holders.
Wednesday, June 28 @ 7 pm: Ann Kidd Taylor with ‘The Shark Club‘ (with Sue Monk Kidd)
The writing gene is strong in this family. Mom Sue Monk Kidd wrote the beloved The Secret Life of Bees and The Invention of Wings, and together they wrote the memoir Traveling With Pomegranates. Now Ann Kidd Taylor shares her novel, The Shark Club, with us on Wednesday, June 28, at 7 pm. When a young-love encounter and a shark attack hit the same day for 12-year-old Maeve, is it any wonder as an adult she’s a marine biologist with relationship issues? When she returns to her childhood home to fight to save sharks from an illegal finning operation, she also has to confront family and romantic fronts.
Ann will be in conversation with her mom, Sue Monk Kidd, with Raleigh author Cate Lineberry (Be Free or Die; The Secret Rescue) moderating. This talk, which will touch on mother-daughter writing teams, is one we want to overhear.
Friday, June 30 @ 7 pm: David Sedaris with ‘Theft By Finding‘ (Admission tickets sold out; unlimited signing line tickets available)
Admission tickets to David’s program have sold out! There are unlimited signing-line-only tickets available with QRB purchase of Theft by Finding. Your friends can join you in the signing line. You WILL meet David and get your books signed.
It’s always a true event when David Sedaris returns to Quail Ridge. We welcome him on Friday, June 30, at 7 pm with Theft By Finding: Diaries (1977-2002). If you’ve ever met David at a signing table, that’s an experience in itself. David is very accommodating but there is one very strict rule: no photography or videotaping, both during the program and the signing line.
Ticketed event: We are sold out of admission tickets to the program but signing-line tickets are still available!
There is no limit to the number of tickets for the after-program line to meet David and have your book signed. Our admission tickets are all spoken for, but you may still purchase a book and get a signing-line-only ticket. You WILL meet David and interact with him at the signing table. If you have a signing-line-only ticket, friends can accompany you in the line.
Not able to attend the event? We can get a book signed for you by David and mail it to you. (Mailing fee would apply.)
Thank you for joining David in supporting independently-owned bookstores.
David always recommends a book at his events – think of it as a ‘private’ book club with David. His pick for this visit is The Rules Do Not Apply by Ariel Levy.
